its true (ok, maybe i spent 10 minutes on the castle, but rest are all 5 minutes max)... they are like 250x250 in size. The goal in each one is to simplify the scene as best as possible to readable 2D shapes. And that way practice use of color and value.

I can't really draw anything long term, because i lose interest too quickly (at least atm >_<) so i'll just paint those little thumbnails and practice to draw these dynamic poses: they look "simple" enough XD

p.s. how come he is not a ninja? aren't all of them ninjas? is he even good O_o ? or he wants to kill Kimi :O ?

Nooo ofcourse not! He is a ''shadowic'' figure, noone knows he is or what his background is. But he combines martial arts with science (for electrifying powers), to create his ''Storm'' icon.

(Only the one who wants to draw him gets to know him a little more.)

well, if i would to love them, then i wouldn't strive to improve them, and i would be stuck on this skill level forever. Ofc, i don't hate them, i just think that i can do better, i think that every artist thinks that way.

Here, let me demonstrate that for ya:

The first one is made in February 2009, second one in November 2009, and the 3rd one few weeks ago. If i got satisfied with the 1st one (even if she actually lacks a belly button XD ), i would stayed on that skill level. And i still see some things on the 3rd one that i would like to improve. So, its not that uncommon to hear an artist bi*ch about his own art XD

Ofc, im not going to complain on compliments/critiques i get, its always nice to see how ppl take the time and look at my art, that makes me quite proud

Is it a weird thing to shout ''what the f-'' after seeing your improvements in only 2 years. It looks like if I just would start drawing, few years later I will be improved a ton.

Yes. You would improve a lot. With hard work anything is possible.

But... "If you want to be the best you have to be ok with sucking at it first..."

(I wanted to link another journal of his, but its not on the list, where he explains how with constant practice you can get great concept artist with only 3 years of training...)

When I try to draw, and something looks not right. I want to change it instantly. So I take ages to finish even the lineart. And when I start coloring, and look at good artists' work, I get dissapointed and quit.

Yeah I'm with you about self criticizing though, unlike Magik, I think I've hit a huge roadblock I can't overcome atm. I can't put a finger on it yet. It's frustrating >_<

That's a pretty good point, Magik - I have seen a couple people make that mistake. That's not to say they were bad, but they stopped trying to improve.
As good as those first two pictures are, the third shows a vast improvement.

I have the same trouble as IH. I take FOREVER to draw something because I keep changing and changing it until I get so frustrated that I just give up.

@IH and why don't you ask those good artists how many times did they failed before they became amazing? Everyone is bad at first try. But only ones who are persistent at what they do can become better. If you quit every time something goes wrong (and it will go wrong like 99% of the time) you'll never get better. Like everything in life not just in art. And im sorry if i may seem a little harsh... I almost quit drawing last year, when one (good) artist on DA told me how much my art is boring. And you know what, at that time i was hurt, but the worst part of all is, now i know what she meant, and she was damn right. Ofc everything would be much better if i had a time machine, hop into in and came one year later to see that i got DD on that very same DA :O.

@Mina try drawing something else, that always works out in my case. When i got tired of drawing girls, i switch to landscapes/ still life.

@Drelias We all get frustrated about art, so just go out and do something
else, and come back the next day when you feel better and try again

That's good advice - I've noticed that when I come back to something later, it's a lot easier to get going on it again. For some reason, though, I never do revisit them.
I actually have a few that I liked, but I just got stuck, so I should go back to those, change what I didn't like, and at least finish the lines. Maybe actually finishing a drawing for the first time in ages will help.
